The new Armani man

The first thought goes to them, with an official thank you to Olimpia Milano players, seated in the front row, who won the title of Italian champions over the weekend. That was how Giorgio Armani's men's fashion show kicked off, held in the intimate historic venue on Via Borgonuovo, as it has been for the last few seasons. The designer probably thought of them while composing the wardrobe for next summer, which revisits classic canons in a modern key. «It is nice to see a well-dressed man in reassuring clothes, but also to see an evolution of fashion. Classic is fine but it is necessary to be open to novelty», Giorgio Armani explained. 

Novelty that takes the form of greater freedom in dressing, taking advantage of the concessions one can afford during the warm season. Surrounded by an ideal expanse of sand, the models walked wearing soft linen suits in dusty colors, silk shirts covered in geometric or floral prints, also worn untucked but softened by a blazer. «It is far from common use. However, if worn with a proper jacket, it is an acceptable and credible formula» the designer explained. Soft tunics, silk scarves as a must-have accessory and overlays of daring combinations of contrasting prints complete the sequence of looks.

«I have worked on canons, on classic pieces worn in an unusual way, combining them in an equally unusual manner», Armani continued. On the heads skullcaps making the hairstyles look neat and enhancing the faces’ contours. Singular versions of espadrilles on the feet to «move nonchalantly and with that casual, relaxed air we need today» the designer explained. The jackets worn on bare chests were another risk, indicating a renewed desire to seduce. 

Judgment. «I wanted to emphasize my world in a modern key. Therefore, I tried to identify a new Armani, the one I look for every time». The designer candidly described his desire for modernity, daring with colors, prints and relaxed volumes. The result is a reassuring yet stimulating visual impact that will win a new audience for the fashion house and satisfy the existing one. (All rights reserved)
