Pucci under the Capri sun

«For this first collection, I took inspiration from the first prints, the ones which were still drawn by hand,» Camille Miceli, making her debut at the artistic direction of the LVMH fashion house, explained. She created a whole day of customized experience on the island

Under the Capri sun, with love. It almost seems like a declaration of intent by Camille Miceli, who chose the island known for its Faraglioni to tell the first chapter of her story at the helm of the Lvmh fashion house. It was a true experience among customized venues, yoga lessons, and colored beach loungers where the brand's swimsuits could be shown off by the happy few invited to the all-day event. Not a classic fashion show but a journey to the origins of the Florentine fashion house and its founder who, right on the island, built part of his fortune by opening a boutique in Marina Piccola in 1951.

«I approached this brand with great respect and admiration for its history,» Miceli underlined. «For this first collection, I took inspiration from the first prints, the ones which were still drawn by hand and not by computer. I am fascinated by the infinite creative possibilities of this craftmanship process, but above all by the imperfection that at Pucci becomes perfection».

The protagonist is the see-now-buy-now La Grotta Azzurra Collection, which was revealed with a drop to be available for immediate purchase on Mytheresa.com (see MFF of April 4). A nomadic wardrobe, fitting all seasons and destinations, to be mixed and matched as one likes with kaftans of various lengths, kimonos made of soft and fluid fabrics like cotton voile, silk mousseline, drill, stretch and terry jerseys, foulard miniskirts, shorts and pants playing with extra-large flower patterns, while quilted sweaters, silk twill sets and Friulian slippers are offered in unisex versions. Pucci's iconic prints are reworked in a mix and match of patchwork or cover the looks all over in new sizes and proportions. These are motifs that refer to the origins of the Maison, redesigned by Camille Miceli herself in a way that respects the imperfection of what is handmade. The new signature logo, on the other hand, is inspired by the archival Capri Sport label from 1953. Two intertwined fishes sprout on the buckles of belts, platform shoes, clogs, hoodies and pullovers or turn into single earrings.

A true clean start from a young and fresh perspective, therefore, for the LVMH brand which, in September last year, welcomed its first female creative director since its foundation, following the departure of Massimo Giorgetti in 2007 and the alternation of a series of guest designers, such as Christelle Kocher of Koché and Tomo Koizumi. Following this initial launch, other La Grotta Azzurra creations will arrive in stores in May, June and July. For Miceli's debut, Pucci has in fact decided to follow the see-now-buy-now format with collections regulated by monthly drops, reflecting the new soul of the brand. (All rights reserved)
