Meta-fashion. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are the first big names to put on a show on today’s most discussed and sought-after set, the metaverse. A parallel universe where an unprecedented fashion week lands (see MFF of March 18). With Dolce&Gabbana acting as a forerunner in a calendar that sees in today’s schedule Etro (at 16) and will see shows by Tommy Hilfiger, Hogan and Philipp Plein, but also metaverse-native labels such as Placebo or DressX, all scheduled for the first ever Metaverse Fashion Week (MVFW), underway until Sunday 27. Guests materialize as if teleporting from a circle of light, standing with their avatars on curved steps around the catwalk in the shape of the number eight, or the symbol of infinity. The ceiling is open to a starry sky, while at either side gigantic white water lilies appear, from which the very special models chosen by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana for this ground-breaking défilé emerge.

The models are the first surprise, humanoid avatars with feline faces, wild fashion cats for a special catwalk. The zebra-effect first look is worn by a model with big glasses and a belt carrying the golden letters DG. Then, a feminine look with big, almost rodeo style shoulders, worn by a cat with purple hair and ponytail. The outfits respond to an aesthetic challenge taken up by the creative duo, able to mix hip hop, street and gamer influences, with touches that are above all ironic, such as when the virtual models rise unfailingly in mid-air, while the video wall shows the projections seen at the Maison's last show at Women’s Milan Fashion Week. Hosted by Decentraland in collaboration with UNXD —Non-Fungible Token (NFT) platform specialized in luxury and culture— the show reveals 20 bespoke looks designed by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana specifically to celebrate the medium’s creativity and innovation. After the show, the whole collection remains on display in an exclusive Dolce&Gabbana pop-up store in the Luxury Fashion District of Decentraland, designed by UNXD, where most of the initiatives of this Metaverse Fashion Week will take place.

«Dolce&Gabbana's presence at Metaverse Fashion Week precedes the upcoming launch of DGFamily Project, an exclusive NFT community in collaboration with Unxd», the fashion house explained. The DGFamily Nft community will offer a unique ecosystem of benefits for holders on both the physical and metaverse levels. They will include access to exclusive drops and collaborations, both digital garments wearable by avatars and physical products, as well as attendance to exclusive events.

A challenge won aesthetically. Items ranging from gamer skins to superhero wings. Ready for the videogames people, consisting of young people of all ages. Instagrammable looks, perfect for Discord or TikTok. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana show a sense of evolution that leads them to always look forward without forgetting their roots. Moreover, they seem to have fun. The next game has just started. Now let us wait for the designers’ avatars to thank the audience at the next meta-show. (All rights reserved)
