EnglishAlberta Ferretti partners with Gran Meliá
The designer of the Aeffe brand has customized the Bombon Pool Club at the historic Hotel de Mar, part of the Spanish chain in Mallorca, in celebration of the hotel’s 60th anniversary. «I dress people, but decorating interiors has always been a great passion of mine», she told MFF. A celebratory event is scheduled for July 4
Alberta Ferretti is making her debut in the world of hotel customization. The fashion house, part of Aeffe Group and led by its eponymous designer, has signed an agreement with Meliá Hotels International to personalize the Bombon Pool Club at the Hotel de Mar Gran Meliá in Mallorca. This hotel, part of Leading Hotels of the World, has long been a favored destination for Mallorca’s elite, royals, and the international jet set. The collaboration coincides with the 60th anniversary of this iconic Balearic Island destination, originally designed in 1964 by Catalan architect José Antonio Coderch.
«Our collaboration with Alberta Ferretti celebrates the essence of quiet luxury that both of our brands epitomize», Gabriel Escarrer, Founder and ceo of Meliá Hotels International, explained. «At Gran Meliá, hospitality is at the heart of everything we do, and we recognized in Alberta Ferretti the same level of dedication in her craft. Through this partnership, we aim to offer our guests a new, high-level experience that honors both Mrs. Ferretti’s iconic creative vision and the architecture of the Hotel de Mar».
For this special occasion, the Brand’s signature tie-dye prints will adorn the pool and solarium areas in shades of blue, while the beach and pool bar will feature patterns in beige tones. This collaboration marks a first for both the Spanish hotel chain and the Fashion gouse, as Ferretti revealed to MFF, ahead of a celebratory event with special guests and vips scheduled for July 4.
How did the collaboration with Gran Meliá come about?
They asked me to customize the Bombon Pool Club at the Hotel de Mar for its 60th anniversary. I was intrigued by the name «El Chocolate», as it was built with chocolate-colored ceramics. The idea of working on a building with such rich history on an island I know and love fascinated me.
I fell in love with this hotel for its unique spaces. It feels suspended between land and sea, allowing you to experience it in all its dimensions, from the green lawns to the sandy tones and the large blue terrace that seems to float on water. Moreover, it has a strong connection with nature, which I have always respected. This creates a very distinct identity. The beach, framed by amber-red rocks, has a dock from which you can head out to the open sea. Sunbeds have been placed on these rocks, while on the other side, there is a spacious terrace where the sunbeds appear to float on the water.
What elements of your style did you incorporate into the collection?
I liked the idea of interpreting a theme while respecting the characteristics of each space. On the rocks there are shades of amber, tobacco, and sand. These same designs, like shells scattered on the cushions, are developed in shades of blue and azure. I was also asked to create a personalized cocktail for the pool club restaurant. We aimed to style the entire location, giving it a strong identity. I always say that while I dress people, it is the home that dresses us anew.
Is this your first project of this kind?
Yes. I have been asked to customize clothing in the past, but my approach always involves passion and respect. Meliá is a great group with over 400 hotels worldwide. I appreciated their approach; they are like a big family. I also liked the location itself. This hotel has something unique and special, making you feel right at home.
Will this collaboration have a follow-up?
I do not know; it was a significant commitment. Everything is Made in Italy. We collaborated with an Italian printing company that perfectly translated the design from a technical point of view.
Have you ever considered extending your brand into the living or design sector?
Home is my great passion. I personally furnished the house where I live, and it reflects my story. The home is like a garment that completely envelops you; it is a space filled with the things you love. I would love to work in this area, but I want to do it in a very hands-on way, without over-industrializing it.
Is it the first time Meliá has collaborated with a fashion house?
Yes, it is a first for both of us. (All rights reserved)
