EnglishDolce & Gabbana’s neorealistic couture
«Authenticity is the best word to define this haute couture» Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana said, who decided to celebrate the excellence of their Maison in Apulia. Bustiers woven like wicker baskets, crochet dresses, maxi panier skirts, and sensual lace took the stage, as the expectations rise for the 40th anniversary of the brand’s foundation in 2024
The white streets of Alberobello come alive with real-life moments. Smiling ladies prepare orecchiette for the Sunday festivities, boys and girls look out of trulli doors, greeting people while they sit on the stairs. This is how the audience of the Dolce&Gabbana’s haute couture show is greeted, bringing together international stars such as Kim Kardashian and her mother Kris Jenner, Christian Bale, Kerry Washington, Venus Williams, and Angela Bassett.
«Authenticity is the best word to define this collection» Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana said, celebrating the five-day event linked to their fashion house’s excellence in Apulia. «We want to show a journey through Italian roots» they continued. «For ten years, we have been taking our customers to discover the beauty of the country, offering them something unique that money can never buy. We have invested a lot, but we also have got a lot in return. Business, of course, but above all love, which we celebrate every day. By doing something good, the rest, such as the money, comes as a consequence. Our customers are now our friends. What we present to them is a lifestyle, something the fashion house has built up over the years and continues to build up in the view of the celebrations of the 40th anniversary since its foundation, which are expected for 2024».
«This is the most real show we have ever done. As a result, we would call it neorealistic» Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana continued. «We have embraced a courageous challenge, as we left aside glitter in favor of authenticity». Glitter of sequins were then replaced by workmanship that embodies craftsmanship excellence. Bustiers woven like wicker baskets, made with precious silk ribbons and mikado, gowns with giant panier skirts, candid crochet total looks made ad hoc for the fashion house, dresses made from the shape of an apron to tell of real-life trades, capes painted like a postcard from Alberobello, and transparencies of sensual black lace parade on the very long catwalk that crosses the town to its central square. Maxi hats like trulli roofs create a theatrical effect on the models’ bodies, clutching small baskets of bread in their hands to tell of the simplicity of everyday gestures. Touches of vibrant color of flowers like azaleas and bougainvillea, bursting through the Mediterranean scrub, explode among the black and white.
Judgment. «This is our identity. We are Italian and we want to give a tribute to our country» Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana said. With this collection, the two Designers became spokesmen for their love of Italy, celebrating its traditions and tailoring to win the hearts of international customers, who applaud creations designed to make them dream of an experience.
